Bareminerals BarePro Powder Foundation Review
Before purchasing this product, I was quite new to the world of powder foundations. I’ve tried the Bareminerals Original and Matte Powder Foundation before, the former being too shiny and the latter being too cakey on my skin. If you follow me on Instagram at ColouringMeHappy, you would have heard about my obsession with this product, and ridiculous amounts of #motd (Makeup Of The Day) where I used the BarePro Powder Foundation (C$37). If you want to find out why, keep on reading!
The BarePro Powder Foundation comes in a magnetized compact with a fairly strong hold, so you don’t need to worry about it opening by accident in your bag. It is slightly bulky because of the mirror and sponge compartment on the other side of the compact. I don’t mind this at all because I think that this powder works best as a touch-up powder (find out why below).
The Bareminerals BarePro powder is soft and finely milled powder that looks nearly undetectable on the skin. In the swatches below, on the right is it heavily swatched, and on the left is it blended out (you can barely even see the powderiness when it’s blended out!). While it can be built up from light to nearly full coverage, one of the best qualities about this powder is how natural-looking it still looks after multiple layers. I can build it up to medium-full coverage and there will still be a slight sheen – just enough for the powder to look like skin.
I love buffing this powder into my skin after I cover pimples with concealer. In the photo below, you can see that by itself, the powder nearly covered the pimple I had on my chin.
The only downside about the Bareminerals BarePro Powder Foundation is that it only lasts 3-4 hours on me before I start seeing oils peek through. Unfortunately, like most powder foundations, this one also will easily transfer onto your finger if you wipe your face when you’re oily. This is why I think that this product works best as a touch-up powder. While it does not have the best longevity, it has fantastic buildable coverage – perfect for covering up blemishes peeking through during the day.
With that being said, if you still want to use this from morning to night, this is how I work it to extend the wear time. You just need to dust a little bit of translucent powder on my primed skin before AND after applying this powder. That way this powder will last 5-6 hours before getting slightly shiny. This method also prevents the powder foundation from cracking and lifting off when I blot my face. With this method, I’ve been happily using this powder as my everyday foundation for the past few weeks.
Honestly, I love this product and will continue to use it for many months to come, because it is the most natural looking foundation with the easiest application process in my collection. With that being said, if you have super oily skin like I do, I would not recommend expecting this to last all day. Bring it with you for touch ups along with some blotting sheets and your skin will look flawless all day.
