Shiseido | Sports BB Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ WetForce
Before trying the Shiseido Sports BB Cream (C$48) out, I never thought that a makeup base (foundation, BB cream, CC cream) could be so waterproof. I was at the spa with my boyfriend for 8 hours and put this BB cream to the test in steam rooms, dry saunas, and hot tubs. Amazingly, I still had product on my face left after the 8 hours were over!
The first thing that caught my attention when I was reading about this product is that it claims to perform BETTER when it is under the sun, or comes into contact with water. It also claims to be:
When I first applied the Sports BB cream, I noticed that it was extremely light in colour as well as in pigmentation; however, as I let it sit for a couple of minutes, not only did it oxidize to become darker, but it also became fuller coverage (say what?!). I don’t know what sorcery was involved in making it do that
, but it must’ve been the same magic involved with the staying power (see later on in the post).
Originally, the Shiseido Sports BB WetForce applies very liquidy and you need to shake the bottle before applying. After rubbing it in though, it becomes tacky and a little more difficult to rub in. So you have to work fast!
As seen in the photos below, the BB cream didn’t look any different without flash and without flash. Often times, high SPF content causes flashbacks, but this one didn’t, which surprised me because it has such a high SPF (50+).
There is quite a strong perfume-y scent – and not the cute kind. It smells like the scent found in high-end brands like Shiseido, Chanel, Lancome etc. The scent lingers for about an hour before I don’t smell it at all anymore on my face.
This is by far one of the most waterproof and transfer-resistant makeup bases that I’ve ever tried. As I said in the intro, I spent 8 hours in saunas, hot tubs, and steam rooms and I still had coverage left on my forehead and chin.
With that being said, this BB cream will not control oil like my other matte long-lasting foundations (Estee Lauder Double Wear, L’Oreal Infallible) so it’s still important to prime and set your skin properly. I only lasted about 3 hours before I started seeing oil come through, so I wouldn’t recommend this foundation for everyday use in the summer.
I was shocked when I realized that this tiny bottle came with a full 1 fl. Oz of product. Most foundations come with 1 fl. Oz and their bottles are at least two times the size of this Shiseido WetForce BB cream. The cap twists close and clicks shut to tell you that it is secure so this product is very travel-friendly.
Although I wouldn’t recommend this if you are wanting an everyday mattifying base, I definitely think this BB cream has its own place in my makeup collection. Even my most long wearing foundations melt off my face when they are exposed to water, but this one does not. Props to Shiseido for creating such a unique product that lives up to what it claims to do.
