Bareminerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolour
If I (only) had one weakness as a makeup lover, it would be my obsession with liquid lipsticks. There’s something about a longwearing product that calls my name. The Bareminerals Gen Nude Lipcolour (C$23) claims to be a longwearing, moisturizing, full-coverage, cream-to-matte lip colour. Did Baremineral’s take on a longwearing lip colour meet my expectations? Keep reading to find out.
The Gen Nude Matte Lipcolour applies like a mousse – feeling thin and lightweight for the entire duration of the wear. I wouldn’t say that it is moisturizing, but it is definitely comfortable, so if you have dry lips like me, you will enjoy how this feels. The product itself takes a while to turn completely matte and dry down (Bareminerals suggests waiting 10 minutes); however, once it does, it has a powdery finish that makes it nearly undetectable. There is no stick, no drag, and no dryness whatsoever. The Gen Nude Liquid Lipcolours are great for those who don’t like the feeling of a lipstick.
While this product will not mask find lines on the lips, it will not accentuate them. So if you have dry, or wrinkly lips and have trouble finding matte lipsticks that don’t accentuate your fine lines, the Gen Nude Matte Lipcolour will be something you’ll want to reach for.
This lipcolour has a fairly strong vanilla and sweet smell that dissipates as soon as it begins to dry down (1-2 minutes). I personally really enjoy the scent.
The Baremineral’s take on the liquid lipstick isn’t like your traditional liquid lipstick. Unlike liquid lippies such as the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks, these will not last through meals. This liquid lipcolour will last through drinking or snacks, but will breakdown as soon as it comes into contact with oil (which is found in most meal foods). So overall, the Bareminerals Gen Nude Liquid Lipcolours will last 3-4 hours with drinking and snacking, and will come off as soon as you eat.
I have the colour XYZ, which I LOVE. It is a medium nude shade with a slight pink tone, which makes it very wearable. Although it may differ slightly on each skintone (it looks very cool toned on me) it will look great on all light to medium skintones. The colours in the Bareminerals Gen Nude line are one of the best qualities of the Gen Nude Lipcolours. And if you don’t like this shade, there are 19 other shades to choose from. All the colours range from dark nudes to lighter nudes, so if you are a nude lip lover like me, you will definitely find something up your alley in this line!
Now, here is where I have major complaints about this product. Overall, the packaging is just a simple, matte tube with a black cap. There is a flat applicator that has the perfect amount of product. HOWEVER. If you store the Bareminerals Gen Nude Lipcolour sideways, or toss them in your bag, the oil from the product will spill out from the top and gather around the neck of the tube. Since the packaging is matte, oil that transfers onto the outside of the bottle will love very obvious and messy. Although I love this product, I am hesitant on using it because of the messy packaging. I wish this wasn’t the case!
