Bite Beauty Lip Pencil
These lip pencils (C$20) are soft and glide on easily on the lips. Since Bite Beauty’s lip products are food grade and do not contain parabens, sulfates or phthalates, this is a great alternative for those who like to know that their lip products are safe to consume.
However despite the great texture, if you are like me and you like fill in your whole lip with lip liner, it will take a while because the lip pencil is thin (both when it is freshly sharpened or blunt).
Unfortunately, the Bite Beauty Lip Pencils will apply patchy if you have even the slightest dryness on your lips. Sometimes I like wearing lip liners as matte lip colours by putting a thin layer of lip balm underneath. The lip balm usually helps blend the lip liner together to make it look like one uninformed swipe; however, these lip pencils will not apply evenly – even with lip balm. You will have better luck with the lighter colours such as 020 (as seen below), but colours such as 044 will not be in your favour.
The scent is exactly like Bite Beauty’s signature scent, but it doesn’t last as long as their lipsticks because this formula is much drier. So if the scent bothered you in their other products, this will fare be much better than you.
020 is a standard warm to neutral nude with some brown undertones.
The Bite Beauty Lip Pencils help extend the wear of any lip colours you apply on top, but it may not be the best choice for wearing on its own. The product never really sets and it smudges fairly easily so the longevity isn’t the best. The darker shades in the line will last much longer than the lighter ones, but will still fade significantly after a meal.
Since the Bite Beauty Lip Pencils are so soft, they need to be sharpened once every 4-5 times that you use them. I like filling in my whole lip with lip liner before I apply lipstick so I may use it more each time than you may, but regardless you will need a lip pencil sharpener nearby.
I would say that the only downside about this product is the fact that it needs sharpening. I’ve been so spoiled with the many other lip pencils on the market that are retractable that I feel like sharpening every couple of uses is too much maintenance for a mediocre product.
I am glad that Bite Beauty finally came out with lip liners, giving those who are more conscious about ingredients in their lip products an alternative. However, these were not very impressive. I wish it was retractable and performed better on dry lips.
