Maybelline Colour Jolt Intense Lip Paint Review
I regrammed a photo of the Maybelline Colour Jolt Intense Lip Paints (C$9.96) months before they were released because I was so excited for them. After reading Maybelline’s description of them, I expected them to be lip pigments that offered opaque, long-lasting coverage – the Cover Fx Custom cover drops of all lip products. Basically, I was expecting an intense pigment that can mix with your favourite lipsticks to create the perfect colour for you. Maybe I was expecting too much so unfortunately, I was disappointed.
The Maybelline Colour Jolt is very much like a melted lipstick. The consistency is not thin enough to be similar to a traditional liquid lipstick, but it is thin enough to be squeezed out of a tube. Despite being the lightest shade of the range, it is very pigmented and opaque with one swipe on the lips, but it has disappointing staying power.
It will last 3-4 hours on my lips without eating or drinking, but will slide off immediately when I consume anything. On the lips, the Maybelline Colour Jolt feels like a non-sticky gloss, but it does not feather out of my lip lines despite having a glossy consistency; however I would be more cautious with the darker shades as any feathering would be much more prominent with those shades.
Here I have 05 Stripped down, which is very similar in colour to the Too Faced Melted Liquified Longwear Lipstick in Melted Chihuahua. It is a nice nude with a hint of pink and is a great MLBB colour (My Lips But Better). It is the only nude in the collection, as the rest of the colours are quite vibrant.
Maybelline gives you 0.21 fl oz in a little plastic squeezy tube. Though it is not a lot of product, a little goes a long way. The black plastic cap screws on tightly, and because of how compact this is, it is very travel-friendly. There is a sponge applicator on a slanted tip, and the product comes out of the middle. Once the sponge tip is stained (within the first application), it will stay stained, so some may think that this applicator is unhygienic.
Overall, this is a great, pigmented lip colour; however, because of the poor staying power, I don’t see myself reaching for this often.
