My Experience hiding dark circles: The lipstick trick
I stumbled upon a Pinterest post one day that mainly contained a before and after picture of a girl’s bad case of dark circles miraculously disappearing after smearing lipstick under her eyes. I was pretty shocked to say the least, and thought to myself, “is it really that easy?”. So I decided to try it out for myself – here are the results.
Contrary to my initial belief, there was more strategic planning involved than I thought. The idea is to counteract the blue/purple with an orange colour corrector. Since orange is directly across from blue on the colour wheel, placing it on top of blue will cancel it out. Same as after any colour correcting step, you still need to place a skin toned concealer on top. Colour correction is designed to cancel out the particular tones that it is supposed to cover. So for example, when you are using an orange colour corrector, the blue underneath your eyes will be corrected, but there will still be an orange tint before you use concealer on top.
Here you can see how the under eye circles look like before, with the orange lipstick and after. (The lightness you see on the outer corner of my eye is leftover concealer after I wiped it off from the makeup I had on during the day)
And below is a comparison of the under eyes without the lipstick underneath the concealer, and after.
Left to right: No orange lipstick, with orange lipstick.
As you can see, there is no difference. I am even more inclined to think that the side with the lipstick is worse than the one without. This is because I don’t have blue tones underneath the eyes. If you look carefully at the image of my under eyes without any makeup on, there is only a little bit of redness. So because blue tones are not prominent underneath my eyes, the orange did not do any colour correcting for me.
I would have loved to see a big difference in my under eyes after using this, but unfortunately, this trick is not meant for me. However, if you have blue discolouration under your eyes, I would love to hear about how this trick goes for you!
