Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour Review
Matte lips. How many more matte lip colours can the drugstore come out with? Don’t get me wrong, I love matte lips. I think they look better on me than most glosses. Not to mention that a lot of matte variations last longer throughout the day. So how did the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour fare in among the various other matte liquid lipsticks in the drugstore?
The packaging is a thick tube that is flatter on one side, with a frosted matte glass and silver cap. The bottom of the tube is flat, so you can stand it up on your vanity if you wish. It is bulkier than it’s liquid lipstick counterparts (L’oreal Infallible, Sephora liquid lip stain); however, it is fairly lightweight, but sturdy enough to feel not cheap.
The applicator of the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour is a flat, long paddle. Unlike doe foot applicators, both sides of the applicator are the same. To get more precise around the cupids bow and outer corners, I turn the applicator around to the skinner side.
The colour that I have is called Seduction. It is a light pinky nude that is not too light, that it makes me look washed out, but definitely not as dark as the popular 90s brown nude.
The consistency of the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour is very interesting. When I initially swatched it on my hand and rubbed it out, the colour disappeared, and I was left with a translucent sheen that felt smooth and a little oily, instead of sticky like most glosses would. When applied to the lips, it feels like a lightweight gloss. It is not as gloppy as the standard lipgloss formulas and your hair will not get stuck in it if you wear this outside. When it is first applied to the lips, it feels like an oil, until you let it set for about 5 minutes, and it will start feeling tacky. Although it is not as opaque as the L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Glosses, it is still fairly pigmented and is not streaky.
It smells like a bag of Jelly Bellys!
The longevity of the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour is fairly impressive. After eating and drinking for 5 hours, I still saw some pigment around the outer rim of my lips. There is a little bit of dryness felt after 3 hours. When I put a glossy lip balm on to help with a slightly uncomfortable feeling, the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour feathered a little bit on the outer corners. Although with Seduction it was barely noticeable, I would imagine that this would be an issue for darker colours. After a couple hours of wear, some of the pigment falls into the lines of my lips. In the photo below you can see that there are lines created by the leftover pigment on my upper lip.
Overall, the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolours are great for those who like comfortable matte lips. Although the wear time is not as strong as other liquid lipsticks like the Kat Von D ones, these are great for everyday lippie wearers who like a matte finish.
