NEW Hard Candy Cheeky Tints Sheer Blush Gels
A lot of the times when I got to Walmart, I pass the Hard Candy line without a second glance. Despite the eye catching and unique packaging, something about it’s exclusivity to Walmart turns me off. Something affiliated to an all around department store can’t have THAT much to offer in turns of makeup, right? The fantastic gems from this line like the baked bronzer in Tiki, and the Glamoflauge concealer line prove that this may not be true; however, how do the Hard Candy Cheeky Tints Sheer Blush Gels stand against these infamous products?
The Hard Candy Cheeky tint comes out of a small tube about the size of the palm of my hand. The colour of the bottle is supposed to reflect the colour of the product inside. I found that the tube did correctly reflect the vibrant colour of the shade I purchased – Surfer Babe. The black flip cap that is secure and I found that even after a couple applications, the inside of the cap is still kept fairly clean. You get 0.67oz of product in here.
These blushes are $6 US. I threw away my receipt (oops…) so I don’t remember exactly how much I bought them for, but I think they were a little more than $8.
The Hard Candy Cheeky tint is exactly what you would expect by looking at the name. It has a lightweight, watery gel formula that blends nicely. Initially, when it is sheered out on the skin, it has a little bit of a tacky feel that dries down in the next minute.
The shade that I have is called Surfer Babe. It is a vibrant coral with red undertones. The shade looks intimidating at first, but once it is blended out, it allows your skin to peek through, making it a very wearable colour. I can imagine myself wearing this colour on the cheeks in the coming spring and summer months.
This blush lasts about 6 hours on my cheeks (not oily…but somehow my skin eats all blushes and bronzer I put on it). It fades throughout the day like any other blush does, but definitely lasts longer than most of my blushes. If you aren’t as lazy as me, you could bring this little tube with you in your bag and reapply during the day. And since this isn’t a powder product, you wouldn’t need to bring a brush.
There are two methods that I do to apply this.
(1) The first method is by using my fingers. This is what I would do if I were to bring the Hard Candy Cheeky tint with me for touch ups throughout the day. I would squeeze the tiniest amount on my fingers, and place the gel blush on the apples of my cheeks. Then I would take both hands and blend out the blush using tapping motions. It is important to use both hands at the same time, or the product will settle on the side you have left for last, and you will be left with a prominent spot on your cheek where the blush stained! I find that I prefer to use this method when i’m short on time. The blush blends on beautifully, taking only a couple of seconds to get a flushed from within look.
(2) The second method I squeeze a pea sized amount out onto the back my hand or plastic material that you don’t have a use for (I used to use the plastic earring holder that came with earrings when you first bought them at the store) and use an ELF small stipple brush to pick up the product and blend it on my cheeks. This works well if you don’t want your fingers stained for the next few hours.

Overall I think that theHard Candy Cheeky tint is a great product if you don’t mind the staining that can potentially happen (either on the back of your hand from using it as palette, or your fingers for quick application). Personally I live with swatches all the way up to my elbows on most days so I don’t mind. It’s pretty long lasting against my makeup-eating face and is a great colour that imitates that “glow from within” look. If there’s anything I’ve learned from this product, it’d be to not overlook the underdogs in the makeup world, and to not be afraid to try new products, even if they are not frequently talked about. So go out, explore, and have fun!
